fields such as Alexander Technique, Improvisation, Yoga, Massage Therapy, & Developmental
Fitness.  Mrs. Conway has attended and presented sessions for these conferences since 2002.

PHILOSOPHY
Like the Suzuki philosophy, I believe every student is able to learn, and they should be taught in a
loving, positive environment.  Lessons at the Shelly Davis Piano Studio include many "kid-friendly"
incentives including fun music, theory games, and piano parties.

Studies have shown that making music enhances a student's ability to process other information
useful to their academic studies.  I also believe making music enhances a student's confidence and
self-esteem.

My students may never grace the stage of Carnagie Hall, but they will learn to interpret and create
beautiful music on their own, and gain a love for music as well as pride and self-confidence along
the way.

No matter what else I've done in my music-career, I've always maintained a private piano studio.  In
the past I have taught only competition-level students.  Currently my piano students are of all levels
and ages.

My current studio is located in Tyler Piano and Organ Co., and is in session from September
through July.  Using acoustic instruments and technology currently available, my students
progress quickly, learn well, and enjoy their music and lessons.  Every student has one individual
lesson every week, and a group lesson once a month (one specifically designed for beginners, one
specifically designed for intermediate to advanced, and one specifically designed for adults).  In
group lesson we perform our repertoire, learn performance etiquette, and study music theory and
music history.  We have two recitals each year:  a semi-formal Holiday Recital in December , and a
Spring Recital in May where the students are also presented with the ribbons, pins, certificates,
medals, and trophies they have earned during the year.  After the Spring Recital, we immediately
begin working on our goals for the coming year.

Some of my piano students are intending to make music a career, and some are not.  I have had
students win first, second, and third place in various competitions, and receive full music-
scholarships from colleges and universities.   Depending on each student's level and career-path,
my students participate in one or more of the following:  ETMTA Fall Festival, ETMTA Achievement
Auditions, TMTA Theory Examination, TMTA Publication Competition,  TMTA Composition
Competition, MTNA Performance Competition, National Guild of Piano Teachers Auditions,  UTT
Piano Skills Festival, Kilgore College Bach Festival, Stephen F. Austin University's East Texas
Piano Competition, and other competitions.
